{"id":1861,"date":"2016-12-06T02:27:43","date_gmt":"2016-12-06T02:27:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.davepreciado.com\/blog\/?p=1861"},"modified":"2016-12-15T08:36:33","modified_gmt":"2016-12-15T08:36:33","slug":"why-do-you-train","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.davepreciado.com\/blog\/why-do-you-train\/","title":{"rendered":"Why do YOU train?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I train because Jiu Jitsu is part of my life.<\/p>\n<p>I train because Jiu Jitsu is more than Jiu Jitsu.<\/p>\n<p>I train because of the comradery Jiu Jitsu provides.<\/p>\n<p>I train because it helps me relax.<\/p>\n<p>I train because I&#8217;m forced to be present.<\/p>\n<p>I train because I&#8217;ve learned humility through Jiu Jitsu.<\/p>\n<p>I train because it isn&#8217;t easy.<\/p>\n<p>I train because the complexity of Jiu Jitsu is so vast I will never get bored.<\/p>\n<p>I train because Jiu Jitsu is my catharsis for a rough day.<\/p>\n<p>I train Jiu Jitsu because I&#8217;ve learned to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations.<\/p>\n<p>I train because the confidence and calmness I learn on the mats, I take with me into everyday life.<\/p>\n<p>I train because Jiu Jitsu is free of dogma.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll stop at dogma-free for now.<\/p>\n<p>Next May 2017 will mark my 10 year anniversary in training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. \u00a0Prior to that, I dabbled very briefly in Kickboxing but I would have never considered myself a martial artist. \u00a0Up until May 2007.<\/p>\n<p>What attracted me to Jiu Jitsu was it&#8217;s complexity, it&#8217;s grace, the control, the dynamic, the amount of technique, and it&#8217;s fun!<\/p>\n<p>But what the Gentle Art is also free of are\u00a0the cliche spiritual aspects of martial arts. \u00a0I am a purest in the sense that I bow before stepping on the mats, never walk barefoot off the mats, bow to my instructor before stepping on the mats, etc.. \u00a0But I&#8217;ve found there aren&#8217;t any \u00a0airy fairy, new age, self help, or philosophy that is forced down our throats.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s just Jiu Jitsu and only Jiu Jitsu.<\/p>\n<p>Personally, &#8220;believing&#8221; in &#8220;things&#8221; or &#8220;ways&#8221; is too antiquated for me now. \u00a0I&#8217;ve grown weary of wasting time and energy on notions or ideas\u00a0people\u00a0will never be able to prove or understand, so the realness of Jiu Jitsu is what I love most.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s pure. \u00a0It&#8217;s honest. \u00a0If you&#8217;re not present, you will pay. \u00a0And it&#8217;s obvious to everyone those who sacrifice and put in the mat time. \u00a0There is no cheating. \u00a0There are no shortcuts. There are no &#8220;beliefs&#8221; or dumb slogans, or &#8220;self help life hacks&#8221;. \u00a0Only technique and practice.<\/p>\n<p>The only thing you need to believe in is yourself.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s train!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I train because Jiu Jitsu is part of my life.
